Illustration Project Questionnaire Template
Illustrators and graphic designers, let's talk business!
Hello dear people!
This message is for my fellow illustrators — but I think graphic designers might find it helpful too. And this is about client’s questionnaire.
I often get clients (you probably do as well!) who don’t really know what to include in a creative brief, or don’t have a clear idea in their head yet. Even where they will use the design. That means I, as the illustrator, need to interview the client first — so I can give the right price and get useful info to make the project easier and more clear.
The thing is, I used to brief clients by improvising every time. I’d just ask same questions from memory. And of course, sometimes I’d forget something silly — like asking whether they need the final files in CMYK or RGB. Which meant I had to email them again later with this ONE question… 🙃
So, dear colleagues — I finally put it all together into one document. Now I have a proper questionnaire I use for all new projects. I send it as plain text in an email, or share the Google Form version. Clients don’t have to answer everything — just the questions they actually know the answers to. And now, all the project info lives in one place!
Honestly, this has made my work so much easier. When a new inquiry comes in and there’s no solid brief yet, I just send over the questionnaire. Boom! — the interview is done.
Feel free to grab it, use it, and edit it to fit your own process. I’ve included the plain-text version below for your convenience.
